Garnet and Pearl Stickpin

Egyptian Revival stickpin with garnet and pearl. (J9126)

Alling Egyptian Revival!

The arts and architecture of ancient Egypt often inspired jewelry makers of the early 1900s.  This stickpin with a fiery garnet and luminous pearl (perhaps the sun and the moon) set in a flowing, geometric design is a wonderful example.  The gold surfaces glow with a matte finish that adds to the sense of ancient mystique.  Created by Alling & Company in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

This beautifully crafted stickpin would have pleased the Pharaohs.  The maker's mark for Alling & Company, a shamrock with a "14" and an "A" in the petals, is stamped on the reverse in the upper right (see photograph below).

Alling & Company was a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels based in Newark, New Jersey.    The firm created jewels for Tiffany & Company, Starr & Marcus, and other leading jewelers from 1843 to 1915.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is  2 3/8" long and weighs 1.9 grams.  The top measures  1/2" by 7/16".
