Amethyst and Diamond Stickpin

Amethyst and Pearls!

A striking six-sided amethyst is accented with a sparkling diamond and fresh water pearls.  The gems are set in a flowing Victorian twig-and-vine setting crafted in 14kt gold,  circa 1890.

Regal purple amethysts were favored in Victorian jewels.  Part of the allure of the gem was the ancient Greeks' belief that amethyst protected the wearer from the effects of alcohol.  In ancient Greek "amethyst" loosely translates as "not drunken."

The stickpin is beautifully handcrafted in 14kt gold.  The reverse of the stickpin is pictured below.  Note the sturdy framework that holds and protects the gemstones.  The purity of the gold is marked in the upper left ("14K").

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is just over 2 1/2" long and weighs 2.5 grams.  The amethyst and diamond top measures  5/8" by  5/8".
