Brassler Amethyst Stickpin

Hans Brassler amethyst and diamond stickpin. (J9383)

Amethyst and Diamond

A rich purple amethyst rests in a golden laurel wreath framed by rising volutes.  Beneath the laurel wreath a small diamond sparkles.  A striking example of the imaginative neoclassically inspired jewels created by Hans Brassler.  Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was a gifted jewelry designer who created wonderful stickpins and other jewels that are best described as miniature works of sculpture.  He found inspiration in nature, fantasy and ancient cultures while creating wonderfully imaginative jewels in the Art Nouveau, Neo-classic and Art Deco styles.

This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy frame to cradle the amethyst.  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, a double oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the upper left of the reverse (see photo below).

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures 11/16" tall by just over 1/2" wide.  It weighs 2.6 grams.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked with Tiffany & Company for a period before founding his own firm, The Brassler Company, in 1909.  Brassler served as artistic director for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of strikingly original jewels.  His daughter is the noted 20th century sculptor Margaret Brassler Kane.
