Brassler Carnelian Stickpin

Hans Brassler carnelian stickpin. (J9360)

Carnelian Curves

A carnelian glows like a fiery ember cradled in an undulating frame of golden curves. The crisp geometry of the carnelian and the flowing curves of the setting create a wonderful contrast.  Created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was a gifted jewelry maker who in the early 1900s created a collection of stickpins, brooches and other jewels that are  miniature works of art.  He drew inspiration from nature, fantasy and past historical periods to create unique, imaginative jewels with an elegant sense of style.

This stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy gold frame to protect the carnelian (see photo below).  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, a double oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the lower right of the reverse.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures 5/8" by  just over 1/2".  It weighs 2.5 grams.

Hans Brassler is known for the originality and artistry of his designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris.  Later he worked with Tiffany & Company prior to founding his own workshop in 1909, The Brassler Company.  Brassler served as artistic director for six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of imaginative, finely crafted jewels.
