Brassler Citrine Stickpin

Hans Brassler citrine stickpin. (J9466)

Citrine and Scrolls

A finely cut citrine with rich golden honey tones glows like a smoldering ember amid fluid, twisting scrolls. This striking stickpin was created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold,  circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was an imaginative jeweler who created wonderful stickpins that are best described as miniature works of art.  He found inspiration in nature, fantasy and distant and past cultures to create wonderful jewels drawing on the motifs and aesthetics of the Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts and Art Deco styles.

This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy frame to cradle the citrine.  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, a double oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the lower reverse beneath the pin stem (see photo below).

Cost:  $485

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures 9/16" by 7/16".  It weighs 2.3 grams.

Hans Brassler, Jeweler Extraordinaire

Hans Brassler was known for the artistry and inventiveness of his jewelry designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned a gold medal for "his original and artistic work" at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked as a freelance jewelry designer and at times with Tiffany & Co.  In 1909 he founded his own jewelry workshop,  The Brassler Company, in Newark, New Jersey.  Brassler served as vice president and artistic director of the firm for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of strikingly original jewels.  His daughter, Margaret Brassler Kane, was the noted 20th century sculptor.
