A picturesque pair of Montana Dendritic Agates are featured in this handsome pair of handcrafted dangle earrings. The top of each earring holds a square sugar-loaf cut blue-green tourmaline bezel set on the diagonal withinin a rich yellow gold collet. The tourmalines sit atop the bezel cap set Dendritic Agates with gold wire supports. Each wire buttress mirrors the angle of the bezel walls surrounding the square tourmalines.
Hand-crafted in 18kt yellow gold, these dynamic earrings are a versatile design that can go from "dressed up " for evening wear to " dressed down " with your favorite Saturday jeans. The dendritic agates are cut and polished in an elongated tongue shape to show off the dramatic pattern of dendrites within the colorless chalcedony quartz. Dendritic Agate is a translucent colorless to milky white variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz, with dark brown and black dendrite (fern-like) patterns due to the presence of manganese and iron oxides. It is often found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, the USA, Mexico and Khazakstan. The Dendritic Agates featured in these earrings are from a specific locality in Montana, known for striking patterns as seen here.
Carl Faberge, the famed Russian jeweler to the Czars and Russian Imperial Court from 1885 to 1916, often used dendritic agates together with diamonds and other colored gemstones in his exquisite creations. Dendritic agate is reveled in Russia as a gemstone of long life, good health and prosperity.
