Egyptian Revival Winged Scarab Brooch

To the ancient Egyptians scarabs and peacocks were symbols of rebirth and life. This wonderfully detailed Egyptian Revival brooch features both of these auspicious symbols.
Crafted in 14kt gold, the wings of the brooch are richly decorated with faux wire work and granulation. They are a beautiful complement to the rich details of the central scarab. In subtle contrast to the warm tones of the gold, the eyes of the peacocks are set with small green stones. Worthy of the King Tut's treasury, this brooch would be a wonderful addition to the jewelry chest of any modern day Cleopatra. Cost: $525
From the rear you can see how well this brooch was made. In particular, note the solid appearance of the wings and the sturdy pin stem and hinge. This jewel was obviously crafted to hold its beauty and survive the passage of time. Also note, the transitional safety clasp. This helps us date this piece to the early 1900s.
