Amethyst and Gold Cufflinks

George Street amethyst cufflinks. (J9418)

Purple and Gold

Rich purple amethysts with flashes of violet and red set in brightly polished gold.  In addition to their regal elegance these cufflinks are well suited for the weekend oenophile and occasional tippler.  Among the ancient Greeks and Romans amethyst was believed to protect a wearer from the ill effects of over imbibing.  Veni, Vidi, Vino!  Created by George O. Street & Sons 14kt gold,  circa 1920.

The reverse of these cufflinks is as well crafted as the fronts.  Note the closed gold backs which protect the amethysts and the sturdy cross bars and brackets which secure these cufflinks on the cuff.  Please excuse the shadowy reflections in the photographs.  Both the polished gold and amethyst domes are highly reflective.

These cufflinks were created by George O. Street & Sons,  makers of fine cufflinks and other jewels from 1837 to about 1950.  The firm was known for the exceptional design and craftsmanship of its jewels.  The maker's mark for George O. Street - an "S" in a rounded oval - is stamped on the reverse of the cufflinks.  The maker's mark is followed by "14" for the purity of the gold.
