Elegant Art Deco Cufflinks
Garlands and Swags II
| Festive garlands and swags surround small
pinwheels or stars. Twining, foliate scrolls fill the
hexagonal borders like streamers at a party. The ebullient
mood of these cufflinks is
heightened by the warm elegant glow of the antique gold.
The perfect accessory for any joyous occasion. Created by
Jacob Hookaylo in 14kt gold, circa 1925.
Jacob Hookaylo was a master jeweler who immigrated from Russia in the early 1900s and opened a workshop in Newark, New Jersey. During the 1920s and 1930s his firm created beautifully engraved cufflinks that are miniature works of art in the Art Deco style.
The care and craftsmanship of the Hookaylo workshop can be seen on the reverse of these cufflinks. Note the distinctive wing-form bridges, a Hookaylo signature, and the sturdy brackets that secure these cufflinks on the cuff. The finely finished backs take a high, mirror-like polish delineated by sharp, crisp edges. Please excuse the shadowy reflections of the camera.
