Gold and Black Enamel Cufflinks

Antique 14kt yellow gold and black enamel Larter cufflinks. (J8814)

"A"!

An elegant pair of gold and black cufflinks created by Larter & Sons with a beautifully engraved "A" monogram.  The black enamel borders in a classic wheat pattern and elaborate, engraved "A"s give these cufflinks a wonderful graphic appeal.  Crafted in 10kt gold,  circa 1900.

As with all fine jewels,  you should examine the backs of cufflinks closely.  Here you can see the maker's attention to detail with the sturdy brackets and strong cross bars that secure the cufflinks on your cuff.  The gold backs are polished to a mirror-like finish,  hence the dark reflections from our camera.

The purity of the gold and maker's mark for Larter & Sons are stamped on one side of the cross bars.  The maker's mark for Larter & Sons is a spring-loaded shirt stud invented by the firm in the late 1800s.

Larter & Sons was founded in 1865 and made distinctive cufflinks, dress sets and gentlemen's jewelry during the late Victorian era and first few decades of the last century.  The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson River in Newark, New Jersey.  It was known for elegant design,  innovation and craftsmanship.
