Gold and Blue Enamel Cufflinks

Antique 14kt yellow gold and blue enamel Larter cufflinks. (J8980)

Infinite Squiggles!

Elegant blue and gold cufflinks featuring an endless golden tangle of squiggles.  Surrounding the squiggles are alternating bands of blue enamel and brightly polished gold.  A nice example of the dramatic, imaginative designs of the 1930s and '40s.  Crafted in 14kt gold by Larter & Sons,  circa 1930.

As with all fine jewels,  you should examine the backs of cufflinks as closely as the fronts.  Here you can see the maker's attention to detail with the sturdy strap brackets and strong cross bars that secure these cufflinks on the cuff.  The gold backs are polished to a bright, mirror-like finish.

The purity of the gold ("14K") and maker's mark for Larter & Sons are stamped on the cross bars.  The maker's mark is a spring-loaded shirt stud invented by Larter & Sons in the late 1800s.

Larter & Sons was founded in 1865 and made distinctive cufflinks, dress sets and gentlemen's jewelry during the late Victorian era and the early decades of the last century.  The firm had offices in New York City and manufactured its jewelry across the Hudson River in Newark, New Jersey.  It was known for elegant design,  technical innovation and fine craftsmanship.
