Elegant Platinum and Gold Cufflinks

During the 1920s a pair of platinum and gold cufflinks was the ne plus ultra of a debonair gentleman's dress. The elegance of the style epitomized the saying "Putting on the Ritz."
These unusual marquise-shape cufflinks beautifully capture the excitement of the era with richly engraved star burst centers and bold geometric borders. Crafted in platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1925.
 The 14kt gold backs of the cufflinks are as well crafted as the fronts. The links are connected with sturdy cross bars and secured by decorative trifid brackets. The yellow gold backs are polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the reflections from our camera.
 The cross bars are stamped with the precious metal marks for platinum ("PLAT.") and gold ("14K"). To the left of one of the trifid brackets (see second photo above) is a lightly stamped small letter "C" in a navette shape cartouche. We have not yet identified this maker's mark, but believe it may be for S. B. Champlin Company, jewelery makers of Providence, Rhode Island.
