Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring

| Cool platinum, a royal blue sapphire, brilliant white diamonds and a simple, yet elegant, design come together to create a striking ring. Reminiscent of the days of hot jazz, flappers and speakeasies this engagement ring celebrates the bold geometry and symmetry characteristic of the Art Deco era.
This ring was custom designed for a client who wanted to capture the striking look of Art Deco jewels. The client was (and still is) a talented architect - you can imagine her exacting eye for form, symmetry and proportion. The project began with finding the perfect center stone. We contacted a number of our favorite gemstone cutters and asked them to send us their best emerald-cut sapphires in the 1 to 2 carat range. From the wide selection of sapphires we hand-picked a fine royal blue example weighing 1.5 carats. Next we located a pair of matched baguette diamonds to complement the sapphire and platinum band. Finally, our best platinum smith hand crafted the ring to showcase these beautiful gemstones. |
 From the side you can see that the setting, known as a "French double-prong head," securely holds the sapphire with two prongs at each corner. Also, note how thick the platinum band is throughout its circumference. This ensures that the ring will wear well for many decades. The band has what we call a "split bridge." The band, at the shoulders, splits and sweeps up towards the setting of the sapphire. While below, the lower half of the band flows smoothly into the base of the setting. This creates a graceful, yet sturdy, transition. |

Looking at the underside of the ring you can see that it is as nicely finished on the inside as it is on the outside .... one of the hallmarks of all the fine jewels we create.
Note that the cut-outs beneath each gemstone are symmetrical and smooth, while the inside of the band is beautifully polished. |

| 7.3 by 5.0 millimeters and weighs 1.5 carats. The two baguette diamonds are D-E color, VVS clarity and weigh approximately 0.25 carats in total. The band is just under 4.0 millimeters wide at the shoulders and tapers to 2.5 millimeters at the base. | ||
