Art Deco Fleur-de-Lys Cufflinks

A pinwheel of stylized fleurs-de-lys alternating with tulips is hidden behind a maze-like border in the Chinese key pattern. Both lilies and tulips are symbols of love and purity. Perhaps these cufflinks are a comment on the challenge of finding true love. Created by Taylor & Co. in 14kt yellow and white gold, circa 1925.
 The yellow gold backs of the cufflinks are as nicely crafted as the fronts. Note the sturdy cross bars, triangular links and "hourglass" brackets which secure these cufflinks on the cuff. They are indicative of the care the maker took in creating these cufflinks.
 The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of Taylor & Company - a "T" between the "14" and "K" of the gold purity mark (the horizontal member of the "T" is lost in the curvature of the cross bar). Taylor & Company was founded in Newark, New Jersey by John N. Taylor in the late 1800s and created fine cufflinks and other jewels into the early 1930s.
