Art Deco Citrine BroochArt Deco |
A dramatic Art Deco brooch set with a beautiful honey-colored Citrine. The gold sides of the brooch rise up pyramid-like to support the gemstone. They are decorated with a boldly geometric Greek key design. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1930.
The reverse of the brooch is as beautifully crafted as the front. The elegant simplicity of the design is a hallmark of the Art Deco era. Note, the sturdy pin stem and transitional safety clasp that help secure the brooch to a blouse or lapel. These small details indicate the thought and care taken in creating the piece.
On the upper reverse of the brooch, a small plaque records the mark of Hayden W. Wheeler & Company. The maker's signature (a large "W" enclosing a smaller "H" and "W") is surrounded by a "14" and "K" for the purity of the gold. Hayden Wheeler was a maker of fine jewelry and watch cases based on Maiden Lane, New York. The firm was in operation from about 1850 to the early 1930s. Name: Art Deco |
