Sapphire-like Blue Enamel Cufflinks
| Sapphire-like blue enamels rest above a richly
engraved pattern of jazzy, radiating zigzags. In the
center a diamond sparkles in a platinum setting. All
surrounded by golden garlands of classically-inspired laurel
wreathes. Created by Whiteside & Blank in 14kt gold,
The backs of these cufflinks are as finely crafted as the fronts. Note the sturdy cruciform framework that helps protect the enamel work and provide a sturdy base for the brackets and cross bars. The strong cross bars and brackets help assure that these elegant cufflinks will remain securely on the cuff.
The maker's mark of Whiteside & Blank, a crescent pierced by an arrow, is stamped on the reverse of the cufflinks. To the right of the maker's mark "14" is stamped to indicate to the purity of the gold.
Whiteside & Blank was founded in 1890 and created elegant cufflinks, stickpins and other jewels during the late 1900s and early years of the 20th century. The firm was especially known for the quality of its enamel work. As a bit of jewelry trivia, one of the founders, Henry Blank, was a survivor of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.
