Mysteries of the Sphinx

This custom-created pendant was inspired by the mysteries of ancient Egypt.  The pendant gains its color and sparkle from a relatively new gemstone discovered in Russia in the late 20th century - iridescent pyrite.   This naturally occurring gemstone shimmers with a rainbow of colors seen through a layer of glittering micro-crystals.  The effect is reminiscent of the iridescent shimmer seen in the art glass of Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Above the shimmering pyrite is a faceted amethyst flanked by flames of 18kt gold set with pink tourmalines.

This striking pendant can be worn on a round snake chain or as a slide on a wider necklace,  such as a domed-omega choker.  A truly versatile piece of jewelry, the cleverly hidden bail is designed accommodate a range of necklace thicknesses and lengths.

Although this custom pendant has sold, we can create a pendant in this style set with the gemstones of your choice.  Instead of iridescent pyrite,  the pendant  could feature rainbow hematite, onyx, lapis lazuli, sugilite or even malachite.  Or instead of amethyst and pink tourmalines you might consider any combination of the following: apatite, peridot, sapphire, ruby, emerald, diamond, iolite, citrine or the many flavors of garnet (rhodolite, tsavorite, grape, etc...).  Both faceted and cabochon gemstones would be stunning.
