Elegant Tourmaline Stickpin
Roses and Acanthus
|Fragrant roses blossom while an
acanthus leaf curls dramatically over the top of the
stickpin to support a striking green gemstone (likely a peridot
or tourmaline). A band of white enamel highlights the
inner edge of the setting. This finely detailed stickpin
is alive with symbols of love, health (acanthus), purity and
youth. An auspicious talisman for any wearer.
Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The back of the stickpin is as finely crafted as the front. Whiteside & Blank was a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels during the late Victorian era into the early decades of the 20th century. The firm's maker's mark (an arrow piercing a crescent moon) is stamped on the lower left of the back along with "14" for the purity of the gold (see photo below).
