Truly a Bijoux Original! An 18 karat gold pendant set with natural Blue Chalcedony, Rutilated Quartz and the magical sparkle of a diamond. This pendant features a natural Blue Chalcedony cut in a high-dome cabochon. Blue Chalcedony is a variety of the translucent gemstone crypto-crystalline quartz. Because of its soothing, periwinkle blue color and wonderful cutting qualities this gemstone is highly prized by jewelry designers and gemstone cutters. The Blue Chalcedony bullet (gemology-speak for a gemstone cut as a high-dome cabochon) is securely set in an 18kt gold cap bezel with a luxurious satin finish.
On top is a round cabochon-cut Rutilated Quartz. Rutilated Quartz is Rock Crystal (a colorless variety of Quartz) which is filled with needle-like inclusions of the mineral Rutile. The Rutile needles develop as the quartz crystal is forming and can be copper colored, a dark burnt orange or a golden yellow, as in this example. The Rutilated Quartz is set in an 18kt gold bezel and securely held by a sturdy wire wrap. The highly polished, bright finish of the bezel and surrounding wire wrap contrasts nicely with the satin satin finish of the cap bezel below. Finally, between the Blue Chalcedony bullet and the Rutilated Quartz, a small round diamond is burnish set into the satin-finish cap bezel. It adds just the right touch of sparkle. |
Consumer Alert: When considering the purchase of Blue or other varieties of Chalcedony be on the alert against dyed and adulterated specimens which are being offered as examples of the more valuable naturally colored gemstones. As always, have the seller state in writing whether a gemstone has been dyed or in any other way treated. If you are purchasing an expensive gemstone, always have the stone's identification, quality and value verified by an independent gemological appraiser.

This side view showcases the meticulous craftsmanship of our goldsmith. In particular, note the strong, flowing line of the bail wires, the smooth finished edge of the cap-bezel holding the Chalcedony, and the bright finish of the collet bezel framing the Rutilated Quartz.
A nice feature of this pendant is its hidden bail. Because our goldsmith has hidden the bail behind the Rutilated Quartz cabochon, it does not interfere with the appearance of the pendant. When hung from a necklace, the pendant appears to be floating in mid-air. |

The bail is also oversized to assure that this jewel hangs gracefully from both diminutive and wider necklaces.
Of course, this pendant can be recreated in a variety of precious metals and gemstones. For example you might consider 14kt, 18kt or 22kt gold in a variety of colors - yellow, rose, white or even green. Platinum is also a possibility. You may even want to combine platinum with one or more of the various colors of gold for a truly unique look. For the top stone, we like Rutilated Quartz, however, you may prefer the greater contrast of Black Onyx, Lapis Lazuli or Hematite. Either cabochon or facetted gemstones can be chosen. Other gemstones to consider are Amethyst, Garnet, Citrine, Opal and the many flavors (i.e. colors) of Tourmaline As for the bullet drop .... we just love the color of periwinkle in this fine quality Blue Chalcedony. However, you may prefer a bullet-shaped drop fashioned from Rutilated Quartz, Tourmilated Quartz, Garnet, Rose Quartz, Chrysocolla, Amethyst, Carnelian or Tourmaline. The possibilities are limitless. We work with talented lapidarists (i.e., the folks who cut the gemstones) from around the world. We can have custom cut almost any gemstone you would like to set in this stunning pendant.
