Sapphire and Pearls Brooch

A golden brooch with a richly engraved frame of floral and geometric motifs and small, luminous pearls accenting the corners.  In the center a light blue sapphire rests in the middle of a disk of frosted glass etched with a star-burst pattern.    Created by United Jewelers in 14kt gold, circa 1920.

This brooch is beautifully crafted.  A sturdy pin stem and early safety clasp secure the jewel on a blouse, jacket or hat.  The bezel-set camphor glass and sapphire are secured to the frame with sturdy knife-edge cross pieces.  One of the joys of antique jewels is the care with which they were crafted.

This brooch was created by United Jewelers, a maker of fine brooches, cufflinks and other jewels during the early decades of the last century.  The maker's mark of the firm, "Hallmark", is found on the reverse of the brooch.  Opposite the maker's mark "14K" is stamped for the purity of the gold.
