Art Nouveau Amethyst Stickpin![]() Amethysts and Pearl |
| Swirling volutes rise above a line of three
amethysts to cradle a small pearl. A gently pointed arch
covers the pearl. Created by Alling & Co. in 14kt gold
circa 1900, the stickpin weds elements of Art Nouveau and
Victorian historical design to create a jewel of striking
elegance.
Alling was a maker of fine stickpins and cufflinks known for its imaginative, captivating designs and uncompromising craftsmanship. The firm created fine jewels during the second half of the 19th century up until its closure around 1915. The reverse of the stickpin is as finely crafted as the front. The solid gold back securely holds and protects the amethysts and pearl, while a sturdy, long pin stem secures the jewel when worn. The maker's mark of Alling & Co. (a shamrock enclosing a "14" and "A") is stamped on the upper right of the reverse. (see photo below).
