Antique Sapphire and Gold CufflinksArabesque! |
Golden scrolls flow around regal blue Sapphires set in 14kt gold. These stylish cufflinks bring to mind the ornate Arabesque designs in the Moorish architecture of medieval Spain. Victorian jewelry was often inspired by decorative motifs from ancient and distant cultures. These cufflinks are a wonderful example. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The backs of the cufflinks are beautifully crafted. Note the thickness of the walls and the sturdy brackets that secure the crossbars. These cufflinks should last another 100 years.
The crossbars are stamped with the makers mark of Allsopp & Allsopp (two 'A's on their sides separated by an ampersand). Allsopp & Allsopp was a maker of fine gold and platinum jewelry during the early decades of the last century. The opposite side of the crossbar is stamped with the precious metal mark for 14kt gold ("14k").
