Art Deco Scottish Terrier BroochScottish Terrier |
A young Scottish terrier graces the center
this elegant Art Deco brooch. The youthful Scottie (note
the floppy ears) has the determined, mischievous look of the
breed, an alert raised tail and a finely rendered golden
coat. Created by Carter, Gough & Co. in 14kt gold,
circa 1925.
This small brooch is finely crafted with the terrier silhouetted in a sturdy double frame. Carter, Gough & Co. was a long-established, esteemed jewelry maker that worked with the belief that the quality of the craftsmanship used to create a jewel should equal the beauty and elegance of the design. Note the crisp edges and clean surfaces on the back of the brooch, as well as the sturdy pin stem and clasp that secure the jewel when worn.
The maker's mark of Carter, Gough (an arrowhead enclosing a small "C") is stamped on the top of the clasp along with "14K" for the purity of the gold.. Founded in 1841, the firm created beautiful brooches, elegant cufflinks and other fine jewels until the economic turmoil of the 1930s. Name: Scottish Terrier |
