A golden pharaoh with an elaborate layered
headdress peers from above a small pearl cradled in a torc or
"C" scroll. This classic example of Art Deco sculpture was
created by Bippart, Griscom in 14kt gold, circa 1925.
Ancient Egypt has been an enduring source of inspiration for the arts and architecture of succeeding cultures. In the early Art Deco period interest in ancient Egypt was heightened with the discovery of King Tut's tomb (1922). This passion for the past during the Jazz Age gave rise to everything from luxurious movie palaces fit for a pharaoh to small, finely crafted of jewels with a distinctly Egyptian flavor. This regally elegant stickpin with its bold design and striking geometry is an elegant example. Cost: $385 |
