Art Deco Pharaoh Stickpin

Art Deco Egyptain Revival Stickpin (SP9517).

Art Deco Pharaoh

A pharaoh peers intently to his right framed by the Art Deco geometry of his striking headdress.  Below a small pearl is cradled in an upturned "C" scroll or, perhaps, it is an ornamental torque.  A classic example of the Art Deco fondness for re-imagining the ancient past with a modern flair.  Created by Bippart, Griscom & Osborn in 14kt gold circa 1925.

The arts and architecture  of ancient Egypt have been an enduring source of inspiration for succeeding cultures.  In the early Art Deco period interest in ancient Egypt peaked with the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922.  This passion for the past during the Jazz Age gave rise to everything from luxurious movie palaces fit for a pharaoh to  small, finely crafted of jewels with a distinctly Egyptian flavor.  This regal stickpin with its bold design and striking geometry is an elegant example.

Cost:  $435

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is  2 1/2" long and weighs 2.0 grams.  The pharaoh and headdress measure  9/16" by 7/16".

The reverse of the stickpin is solidly crafted in 14kt gold.  A sturdy pin stem anchored to the back with a collet setting secures the stickpin when worn.  One side of the pin stem is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold and with the maker's mark of Bippart, Griscom (a flaming torch lying on its side).  Bippart, Griscom was a maker of fine stickpins and other jewels from the late 19th century into the early 1930s.
