Sapphire and Diamond

An Art Deco stickpin set with a rich blue man-made sapphire and a sparkling diamond.  The bright white gold setting is finely engraved with dramatic scrolls and geometric motifs.  The fine wire filigree around the sapphire recalls the lacy designs of earlier Edwardian jewels. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1920.

The early 20th century was a period of experimentation and change in jewelry design and manufacture. Two significant innovations were the introduction of man-made sapphires around 1900 and white gold around 1920.  Both were considered forward leaning and fashionable during the Jazz Age of the 1920s.

This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy gallery supporting the top (see photo below).  A gold purity mark "14K" is stamped on the upper right side of the pin stem.

Cost:  $465

Measurements:  This 14kt white and yellow gold stickpin is 2 5/8" long and the top measures 3/4" long by just under 1/2" wide.  It weighs 2.0 grams.
