Art Deco Sapphire StickpinSapphire and Diamond |
An Art Deco study in blue and white with a rich
blue sapphire (man-made) set above a sparkling diamond in white
gold. The bright setting is finely engraved with dramatic
scrolls and geometric motifs and a fine wire filigree frames the
sapphire. Created in 14kt white and yellow gold, circa 1920.
The early 20th century was a period of innovation and change in jewelry design and crafting. Two significant innovations were the introduction of man-made sapphires around 1900 and white gold around 1920. Both were considered forward leaning and fashionable during the Jazz Age of the 1920s. This stickpin is beautifully crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy gallery supporting the top (see photo below). A gold purity mark "14K" is stamped on the upper right side of the pin stem. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
