Custom Asscher-cut Diamond Ring |

This striking engagement ring and wedding band were created for a couple who wanted something a little different. They wanted a ring that would express their unique personalities and special commitment to each other. We began by helping the couple select the center
stone, an Asscher-cut diamond weighing 1.60
carats. To help them make the best choice we brought in
a variety of Asscher cuts ranging from modern square emerald
cuts to more traditional examples with high crowns and deeply
cut corners. They selected this particular diamond
because it shows the dramatic visual effects of an Asscher-cut
without having the high crown of the older cut stones. ![]() With a unique center diamond you need something special for the side stones. We located a pair of step-cut "calf head" diamonds. A "calf head" is a rarer shape of side diamond that resembles a triangle with the corners clipped - somewhat resembling a calf's head. The strong visual geometry of the Asscher cut is perfectly balanced by the brilliance of the side diamonds. ![]() The couple wanted a ring that was elegant, but not overstated. So, we hand crafted a platinum ring based on our Breathless design. The gently rising shoulders and gracefully tapered prongs create the perfect setting for these unique diamonds. Note the thickness of the ring's band and the strength of
the setting. This ring was crafted to last a lifetime
and become a family heirloom that can be passed to future
generations. ![]() The inside of the ring is as nicely finished as the top. Note the smooth, even cut-outs beneath the diamonds, the elegant taper of the prongs, and the graceful narrowing of the band as it approaches the diamonds. ![]() All of our rings are stamped with our registered Hallmark ("BEL") and the quality of the precious metals ("PLAT" for this ring). These marks are your assurance of quality, beauty and craftsmanship. ![]() To complement the engagement ring we crafted a contoured wedding band with seven round diamonds set across the top. We love the interplay of the Asscher cut, the calf-head side diamonds and the round brilliants. They create a sparkling symphony of light!

The Story Behind
Asscher-cut Diamonds
The Asscher cut was first created in 1902 by a renowned diamond cutter, Joseph Asscher. Several years later Joseph Asscher was chosen by King Edward VII to cut the famed Cullinan diamond for the English crown jewels. Asscher-cut diamonds are usually octagonal in shape or a square with beveled corners. They have a deep step-cut crown and pavilion that create what we call the Hall of Mirrors effect. When you look directly into a well-cut Asscher diamond you see a wonderful illusion like an infinite hallway of reflecting mirrors. The Asscher cut of the early 1900s evolved into the elegant Emerald cut that became so popular during the Art Deco era. Many of the antique diamond cuts - Asscher, Old European and Rose cuts - are now experiencing a revival of popularity. |
