Sculptural Atlas Stickpin

Atlas stickpin. (J9475)

Pillars of Hercules

Atlas supports the weight of the world, or at least the heavens, on his shoulders. The brawny Titan is framed by two richly detailed pillars supporting a hefty entablature and soaring pediment.  A finely sculpted stickpin created in 14kt gold, circa 1920.

In Greek mythology Atlas was condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens through eternity after Atlas lead the Titans in their war against the Olympians.  In some accounts Hercules later took pity on Atlas and built two pillars to ease his burden.

The stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy pin stem and solid gold back.  The reverse is stamped beneath the pin stem with the maker's mark "HK&S" and "14K" for the purity of the gold.  (see photo below)

Cost:  $465

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures just over 5/8" by 3/8".  It weighs 3.4 grams.
