Onyx and Diamond Dress SetCarrington Onyx and Diamond |
The alluring interplay of black onyx, sparkling
diamonds and the brilliance of platinum give this tuxedo set an
inescapable Art Deco elegance. The platinum borders are
engraved with alternating rose and geometric motifs in the
best Art Deco taste, while the edges of the diamond settings are
finely mille grained for a final touch of elegance. Created
by Carrington & Co. in platinum and 14kt gold, circa
1925. |

The backs of the cufflinks and shirt studs are finely crafted
in 14kt yellow gold polished to a bright finish. The
Carrington attention to detail can be seen in the sturdy cross
bars and contoured brackets that secure the cufflinks on the
cuff. Carrington & Company had a reputation for
fine craftsmanship and quality materials that was
commensurate with the elegance of firm's designs. (Please
excuse the reflections of the camera in the above
photograph.) The backs of the cufflinks are stamped with the Carrington maker's mark (a squared "C" enclosing "14"), as well as "14K & PLAT." for the purity of the precious metals.
The cross bars of the cufflinks are also stamped with the retailer's mark "TIFFANY & Co." indicating that the tuxedo set was originally purchased at the venerated jeweler. Carrington & Company was founded in the late 1890s and for the next 50 years created fine dress and tuxedo sets for Tiffany & Co. and many other carriage-trade jewelers of the day.
