Elegant Platinum and Pearl Dress SetCarrington Pearl |
During the first half of the last
century, Carrington & Company was one of the premier
makers of elegant tuxedo and dress sets. This Art Deco
tuxedo set features cufflinks with pearl and mother-of-pearl
centers surrounded by platinum borders embellished with
geometric Art Deco motifs. Crafted in platinum and 14kt
gold, circa 1925.
Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs. The mother-of-pearl and pearl tops measure 5/16" in diameter and the studs are 1 1/8" in length. They are crafted in platinum and 14kt gold. The studs have spring loaded backs - a design first patented in 1898.
Like the cufflinks, the studs have pearl and mother-of-pearl centers surrounded by bold Art Deco borders crafted in platinum. To enhance the elegance and sparkle of the shirt studs the mother-of-pearl centers are finely etched with an intricate spider web-like design.
The backs of the cufflinks and studs are crafted in 14kt gold polished to a mirror-like finish (please excuse the reflections from our camera). The maker's mark for Carrington & Company, a "C" surrounding "14", is visible on the reverse of the cufflinks, as well as the precious metal marks for gold and platinum, "GOLD & PLAT". The reverse and stems of the shirt studs are marked similarly.
