Elegant Sapphire and Gold Dress SetCarrington Sapphire |
A striking sapphire and gold tuxedo set
created by Carrington & Company during the late Art Deco
period. The set features rich blue cabochon Sapphires set
amid a vortex of intersecting lines. A nice example of the
bold simplicity of Art Moderne design. Crafted in 14kt
gold, circa 1940. Three shirt studs, also set with blue Sapphires amid intersecting lines, complement the cufflinks. The shirt studs measure 5/16" in diameter and 1 1/8" in length. Like the cufflinks, the studs were crafted with Carrington & Company's care and attention to small details. The backs of the cufflinks and studs beautifully polished to a mirror-like finish. (The dark reflections are from my camera.). The later maker's mark for Carrington & Company, a "C" surrounding "14" followed by "14K", is visible on the reverse of the cufflinks. The backs and stems of the shirt studs are similarly marked. During the first half of the 20th century, Carrington & Company created fine dress sets and cufflinks. The firm's elegant cuff jewels were often retailed at Tiffany's and other fine jewelers.
