Egyptian Revival Stickpin

Deco Egypt!

Alternating papyrus stalks and palmettes surround a brightly glowing sapphire. During the Art Deco era Egyptian theme jewels with wonderfully stylized geometric designs were much sought after. This stickpin is a striking example. Crafted in 14kt white and yellow gold, circa 1920.
Throughout the centuries the mysteries of ancient Egypt have inspired jewelry designers and architects, artists and poets. During the Art Deco era, this enthusiasm for all things Pharaonic was reflected in everything from lavish movie palaces (e.g., Grauman's Egyptian Theater) to finely crafted jewels.
Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.
Measurements: This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 3/4" long and weighs 1.9 grams. The circular top is just under 1/2" in diameter.

The reverse of the stickpin is as beautifully crafted as the front. The stickpin is secured with a sturdy gold pin stem. The upper left of the pin stem is stamped "14K" and with an indistinct makers mark. The maker's mark is possibly that of Taylor & Co., a maker of fine cufflinks and stickpins during the early decades of the last century.
