Mother-of-Pearl and Enamel Dress SetPlatinum and Pearl |
An elegant Art Deco dress set featuring pearl
and mother-of-pearl centers framed by platinum and black enamel
borders. The edges of the platinum are mille grained with
a bead-like pattern for an added touch of panache. The
dress set beautifully captures the elegance and sophistication
of the era. Created in platinum and 14kt gold, circa
1925. Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs and four vest buttons. The shirt studs and vest buttons repeat the dramatic design of the cufflinks. The shirt studs (pictured above) are 5/16" in diameter and 1 1/8" long. The vest buttons (one shown below) are 1/2" in diameter, the same size as the cufflinks. This dress set was created by L.E. Garrigus & Co., a maker of fine platinum and gold cufflinks during the middle years of the 20th century. The firm's cufflinks were sold by Tiffany & Company and other fine jewelers.
You should always examine the reverse of antique cufflinks as closely as the fronts. The reverse of these cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are beautifully crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the dark reflections from my camera. Note the sturdy brackets and strong cross bars that secure the cufflinks on the cuff.
The cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are marked with the maker's mark for L.E. Garrigus & Co., a flowing double-ended scroll. On the vest buttons and shirt studs the maker's maker is visible on the reverse along with "14K" for the purity of the gold.
On the cufflinks the maker's mark is elegantly integrated into the design of the cross bars. Each of the pieces is also marked "PLAT & GOLD" for the precious metals.
