Pearl on Mother-of-Pearl Dress SetWhite on White |
A marriage of mother-of-pearl, pearls and
platinum give the geometric design of this Art Deco dress set a
striking elegance. Uncomplicated lines and simple color
schemes were hallmarks of Art Deco design. Crafted in
platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1930. Complementing the cufflinks are three matching shirt studs in the same elegant design as the cufflinks. The shirt studs are 5/16" along each side and 1 1/16" in length. This dress set was created by L.E. Garrigus & Co., a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the middle years of the 20th century. The firm's gold and platinum jewels were sold by Tiffany & Company and other fine jewelers of the day. The reverse of the cufflinks and shirt studs are stamped with the maker's mark for L.E. Garrigus & Co., a flowing double-ended scroll. The backs are beautifully crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the dark reflections from my camera. As is characteristic of Garrigus cufflinks, the links are secured on the cuff with sturdy brackets and cross bars.
The Garrigus maker's mark is found just below the "14K" gold purity mark. The backs of the cufflinks and studs are also stamped "PLAT&GOLD" for the precious metals.
As a final touch of elegance the sturdy
cross bars of the cufflinks repeat the
the double-ended scroll of the Garrigus maker's mark.
