Holly chalcedony, rutilated quartz and tsavorite garnets come together to create this striking pendant. The holly chalcedony drops from an 18kt gold bezel with a lustrous satin finish. Above, a cabochon rutilated quartz floats within a polished golden arch. And, to the side two round brilliant tsavorite garnets sparkle. This pendant is hand crafted in 18kt gold.
Holly chalcedony is a rare purple variety of translucent quartz. With its lush purple color this gem is highly prized by jewelry designers, as well as gem collectors. The tsavorites are an exotic variety of garnet known for its vibrant green color and are found in the Tsavo Park region of Kenya.
 The rutilated quartz cabochon is a colorless rock crystal quartz that contains delicate, golden rutile needles. Rutile is a mineral variety of titanium. The rutile needles developed with in the quartz crystal while it was forming. The above close-up of the rutilated quartz shows the golden silk-like threads of the rutile needles. They are perfectly complemented by the highly polished golden bezel and arch. |

In this side view you can see the depth of the bezels that securely hold the gemstones. Note the crisp edges and smooth surfaces. The precision of these handcrafted bezels is indicative of the care and quality with which this jewel was created.
A nice feature of this pendant is its hidden, oversized bail. Two gently arched round gold "wires" form the hidden bail behind the rutilated quartz. The shape of the bail allows this pendant to rest comfortably on almost any chain or silken cord. Or, the pendant can float along a beautiful domed omega choker. Also note the thickness of the bezels that hold the rutilated quartz, tsavorites and holly chalcedony. From the front these bezels have a light, delicate appearance, but as you examine the bezels more closely you see that they have sturdy walls which securely hold and protect the gemstones. |

This 18kt gold pendant measures 1 1/8" from the top of the gold arch to the tip of the holy chalcedony. The pendant's width - from bezel-set tsavorite to bezel-set tsavorite - is 3/4".
The holly chalcedony weighs 7.08 carats and the cabochon-cut rutilated quartz weighs 1.52 carats. The two tsavorite garnets are each 2.8 millimeters in diameter. |
