Art Deco Onyx Dress SetOnyx and Scrolls |
Dark onyx centers surrounded by white gold
borders with an elaborate scroll-and-berry design. The
polished onyxes are sculpted with gentle circular concavities
and beveled edges. This elegant dress set is an example of
the striking black and white designs of the Jazz Age.
Created by Krementz & Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1925. Complementing the cufflinks are four vest buttons and three shirt studs. The studs and vest buttons repeat the onyx and white gold design of the cufflinks. One of the vest buttons and the shirt studs are pictured above. The backs of important jewels should be examined as closely as the fronts. The backs of the cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are crafted in 14kt rose gold polished to a bright finish. Note the sturdy brackets and cross bars that secure the cufflinks on the cuff. The shirts studs and vest buttons with "bodkin" stems are similarly well made. This elegant dress set was created by Krementz & Company. The firm was founded shortly after the Civil War and created beautifully designed, finely crafted dress sets, cufflinks and other jewels well into the 20th century. The firm is especially esteemed for the fine cufflinks and dress sets it created in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles of the early 1900s. The maker's mark of Krementz & Co. (a stylized collar button) is stamped on the cross bars to the right of the precious metal mark ("14").
