Moss Agate Tuxedo SetLarter Moss Agate |
Mesmerizing moss agates with tangles of
swirling green inclusions reminiscent of seaweed floating
beneath the sunlit surface of the ocean. This elegant
tuxedo set was created by Larter & Sons in 14kt gold, circa
1925.
Moss agate is a fine-grained variety of quartz prized for its dramatic green inclusions. This striking gemstone was a favorite among makers and admirers of cufflinks and other accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. |

Larter & Sons was a specialist maker of cufflinks and other gentlemen's accessories during the late 19th and much of the 20th century. Larter's longevity is a testament to the firm's care and craftsmanship in creating its cufflinks and other jewels. On the backs of the cufflinks this care can be seen in the sturdy brackets and cross bars that secure the cufflinks on the cuff and the smoothly polished gold surfaces.
The maker's mark of Larter & Sons (a shirt stud in profile) is stamped on one side of the crossbars. The opposite sides of the crossbars is marked "14K" for the purity of the gold. The shirt studs are similarly signed.
