Elegant Edwardian StickpinEdwardian Elegance |
A white enamel border with gold fleur-de-lys
accents surrounds a beautiful blue guilloche center set with a
small pearl. An elegant stickpin in the pastel shades of the
Edwardian era. Created in 14kt gold circa 1910.
The Edwardians created jewels with an elegance and lightness that were a counterpoint to the starker, heavier jewels of the preceding Victorian era. This stickpin is an elegant example created by the jewelry maker Wordley, Allsop & Bliss. WAB was a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels during the first half of the 20th century. The maker's mark of the firm ("WAB") along with "14K" for the purity of the gold are stamped on the inside of the pin stem. Beautifully crafted, this stickpin has a solid gold back to protect the enamel work (see photo below). Note the sturdy gold pin stem which is securely anchored to the back with a strong collet. Small details like these evince the care taken 100 years ago by jewelry makers. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
