Fierce Lion Stickpin

Lion and ruby stickpin. (J9152)

Ruby Lion!

A lion menacingly glowers while clutching a fiery ruby in its maw.  The fierce mien and flowing mane of the King of Beasts are beautifully rendered.  Crafted in 14kt gold,  circa 1910.

Jewelry lovers in the early 1900s delighted in exotic animals and whimsical creatures.  A teeming menagerie of lions, griffins and dragons embellished stickpins, cufflinks and other small jewels of the era.  This beautifully sculpted lion stickpin was created by Wordley, Allsopp & Bliss, a maker of fine jewelry founded in 1907.

Examining the reverse of the stickpin (pictured below) illustrates sturdiness and care with which it was created.  The maker's mark, "WAB", and "14K" are stamped on the reverse.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is  2 3/4" long and weighs 3.8 grams.  The lion measures  5/8" by  just over 1/2".
