![]() Art Deco Sapphire Stickpin![]() Sapphire Geometry! |
The intertwining, angular lines of a golden
interlace cradle a bright blue sapphire and small sparking
diamond. A nice example of the elegant
geometry of Art Deco design. Crafted in 14kt gold,
circa 1920.
This striking stickpin was created by Whiteside & Blank , a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and watches from 1890 through the first half of the 20th century. Whiteside & Blank was the first firm in the United States to manufacture wrist watches for women. The firm created jewelry and watches that were sold at Tiffany & Company and other leading retail jewelers of the day. The maker's mark for White & Blank, an arrow impaling a crescent, is stamped of the reverse of the stickpin, along with the gold purity mark "14". The photograph below of the reverse illustrates the care with which the stickpin was crafted. Cost: $485 |
