Golden Garlands

Elegant gold cufflinks with finely engraved (guilloche) centers bursting with garlands and swags.  Octagonal borders of bold diamond shapes frame the design.  Guilloche, the art of mechanically engraving richly intricate designs on gold or other precious metals, was a favorite decorative technique among jewelers of the early 1900s.  It is an art that has largely been lost.  Crafted in 10kt gold,  circa 1925.

The backs of the cufflinks are nicely crafted and polished to a smooth, mirror-like finish. (Please excuse the shadowy reflections from the camera.)  The cufflinks are secured on the cuff with sturdy bow-shape cross bars and brackets.

The maker's mark for Ziething & Company (a "Z" inside a diamond shape) is stamped on the cross bars.  Ziething was a maker of fine cufflinks and jewelry during the 1920s.  The opposite side of the cross bar is marked "10K" for the purity of the gold.
