![]() The above close up shows the artistry of the master engraver who carefully inscribed the platinum cross rungs with a delicate pattern inspired by the antique jewels of the early 1900s. In the center of each engraved cross rung, we set a small brilliant-cut diamond to add just the right touch of sparkle. Then, as a final touch of glitter, the platinum edges of the cross rungs were milgrained to create a subtle bead-like appearance. ![]() Now for the story behind this striking pendant. It starts with an engagement ring that we made for a special couple, Rodd and Thao. Thao's favorite color is lavender and she also happens to be from Vietnam. In our collection of exotic gemstones, we found a beautiful radiant-cut lavender spinel that was mined in Vietnam. Obviously, this was the ideal gem for Thao's ring Thao loved her engagement ring so much that Rodd asked us to create a matching pendant. But the challenge was to find a comparable gemstone with the same shade of lavender. We looked high and low, contacting many gem cutters and miners throughout the world. After months of searching we finally found the perfect gem ..... or maybe we should say almost perfect gem. We found a lavender spinel from Burma, but it was boxy and poorly cut. But the gem had great potential, so we had it re-cut to match the shape and size of the spinel in Thao's engagement ring. In re-cutting we also increased the stone's brilliance, color and beauty. The result is the gem you see above! |
