Elegant Antique Platinum Cufflinks

Platinum Ritz!

These elegant platinum cufflinks epitomize the cool elegance of the early 1920s.  Crafted in solid platinum,  the cufflinks feature scrolling borders surrounding engraved linear centers with a mirror-like finish.  These cufflinks inspire you to start humming Irving Berlin's classic "Putting on the Ritz".

Solid platinum cufflinks from the early decades of the last century are rare.  In the early 1920s platinum cost eight to ten times as much as gold.  So platinum cufflinks often had only a thin layer of engraved platinum on top of 14kt yellow gold.  Also, many platinum cufflinks were donated during World War II when platinum,  a strategic metal,  was needed for the war effort.

The backs of the cufflinks are as well crafted as the fronts.  The links are connected with sturdy cross bars and brackets and the backs polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the reflections from our camera.  The cufflinks are also marked with the original owner's initials and the date "12-25-23".  Somebody had a very good Christmas in 1923.

The backs display the precious metal mark "PLATINUM".  Although there is no mark for the maker of the cufflinks,  the design of the cross bars and brackets suggests these cufflinks were created by Carrington & Company.  Carrington was a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the first half of the last century.  They supplied beautiful gold and platinum cufflinks to many of the finest retailers of the day including Tiffany & Company.
