Amethyst and Diamond Stickpin

Brassler amethyst and diamond stickpin. (J9539)

Amethyst and Diamond

A rich amethyst set in a finely sculpted frame of laurel leaves and angular scrolls.  A small diamond set above sparkles like a beacon at the top of the stickpin.  This elegant stickpin was created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Brassler was an imaginative jeweler/artist who created striking miniature works of art in gold. He found inspiration for his wonderful stickpins and other small jewels in distant and ancient cultures, nature and his own fertile imagination.

The back of this stickpin is beautifully crafted with a sturdy gold pin stem and strong frame to securely hold the amethyst.  The maker's mark  of the Brassler Company - a double oval surrounding "14B" - is stamped on the lower reverse beneath the pin stem (see photo below).

Cost:  $545

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 5/8" long and the top measures 11/16" tall by 1/2" wide.  It weighs 3.4 grams.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned or shared in a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked with Tiffany & Company for a period before founding his own firm in 1909, The Brassler Company.  Brassler served as artistic director for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of striking jewels.  His daughter was the noted 20th century sculptor Margaret Brassler Kane.
