Brassler Egyptian Revival Stickpin

Brassler pharaohs and scarab stickpin. (SP9514)

Pharaohs and Scarab

An Egyptian Revival stickpin with regal pharaohs flanking a scarab carved in varicolored jasper.  The pharaohs and the setting surrounding the scarab are beautifully designed with a fine patina throwing the details into elegant relief.  Created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned or shared in a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1900.  He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked with Tiffany & Co. for a period before founding his own firm, The Brassler Co., in 1909.  Brassler served as artistic director for about six years during which time he created a collection of striking, finely detailed jewels.

The design of the pharaohs is repeated on the reverse of the stickpin in low relief (photograph below).  Although the back of a stickpin is usually hidden, Brassler believed a jewel should be beautiful on all sides, even those usually unseen.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more beautiful stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 5/8" long and weighs 4.5 grams.  The top is 11/16" by 9/16".

The stickpin is beautifully crafted in 14kt gold and secured with a sturdy gold pin stem.  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, an oval cartouche enclosing "14" followed by a "B", is stamped on the upper left of the pin stem.  Brassler was a consummate craftsman/designer who took care with every detail of the jewels he created.
