Brassler Sapphire Stickpin
Winged Sapphire |
| A bright sapphire set in one of the
"insectomrophic" stickpins created by Hans Brassler in the early
1900s. These imaginative jewels were often evocative of
bizarre, winged creatures dramatically soaring or leaping
upward. Crafted in 14kt gold circa 1910.
Brassler was an innovative goldsmith and jeweler working in the early 1900s. He often drew upon insect and plant themes to create a menagerie of fantastic, golden creatures. This whimsical stickpin is an elegant example of his work. On the reverse of the stickpin the insect-like design is echoed in low relief. The jewel is finely crafted with a sturdy gold back and strong pin stem securing and protecting the sapphire. The maker's mark of The Brassler Company ("14B" in an oval) is stamped on the upper right side of the pin stem. Cost: $485 |
