Sapphire and Diamond Cufflinks
Sapphires and Diamonds
| Elegant platinum cufflinks with finely
engraved pinstripe centers surround by bold geometric
borders. One side is set with a sparkling diamond and the
other with a dark blue sapphire in the classic "night and day"
style of the early 1900s. Created by Carrington &
Company in platinum and 14kt gold, circa 1925.
The backs of the cufflinks are beautifully crafted in 14kt gold. Carrington & Company's attention to detail can be seen in the sturdy cross bars and strong brackets that secure the links on the cuff. Beneath the brackets the backs are stamped "GOLD & PLAT" for the precious metals.
The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of Carrington & Company, a "C" surrounding "14". Carrington was a maker of fine cufflinks and dress sets from 1900 to about 1950. Based in New Jersey, the firm created elegant platinum and gold cufflinks for many of the finest jewelers of the day.
Name: Sapphires and Diamonds
Night and Day Cufflinks
Sapphire and diamond cufflinks, sometimes known as "night and day" cufflinks, are a reflection of the late Victorian belief that diamonds should only be worn after dark. A gentleman would wear these cufflinks with the sapphires facing outward during the day and in the evening the cufflinks would be reversed to display the diamonds.
