Carter Moss Agate Cufflinks
|Striking moss agates swirl with a tangle of green
inclusions reminiscent of seaweed floating in the sea. The
alluring agates are set in 14kt white gold cufflinks
created by Carter, Gough & Co. circa 1920.
Moss agate is a fine-grained variety of quartz prized for its dramatic green inclusions. This beautiful gemstone was a favorite among the makers of gentlemen's accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The white gold backs of these cufflinks are as finely crafted as the fronts. Note that the backs are closed to protect the moss agates. On the cuff sturdy cross bars and loop brackets help secure the cufflinks.
Carter, Gough was a maker of fine cufflinks, stickpins and other jewels during the early decades of the 20th century. The firm was known for its exquisite craftsmanship and the elegance of its designs. The Carter, Gough maker's mark (an arrowhead enclosing a small "C") and the gold purity mark ("14K") are stamped on the cross bars.
