Elegant Amethyst and Flower BroochFlowers and Hearts |
A bright, pastel amethyst centers a line of golden flower heads and delicate filigree hearts. An beautiful example of the elegant line brooches created in the early 1900s. This amethyst-set brooch was finely crafted in 14kt gold circa 1920.
The rhythmic repetition of the bright flower heads, filigree hearts and small gold beads give this brooch a lyrical quality with the amethyst adding an elegant intermezzo of color. In the early decades of the last century, finely crafted line brooches (sometimes called "bar brooches") were embraced as jeweled accents.
The back of the brooch shows the care with which it was created. Note the sturdy gallery that frames and protects the intricate filigree work and secures the amethyst. Although from the front this jewel appears light and airy, it is sturdy and finely crafted. The top of the clasp is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold. The creator of this brooch is unknown, but was likely one the many fine jewelry makers based in Newark, New Jersey in the early 20th century. Name: Flowers and Hearts |
