Belle Epoque StickpinBelle Epoque! |
The Belle Epoque (1871 - 1914) in France was a period of prosperity, hope, national pride, artistic growth and, at times, excess. Belle Epoque jewels reflected the opulent and optimistic spirit of the age.
This exuberant and sparkling stickpin is a wonderful example. Set with rose-cut diamonds, a luminous pearl and bright ruby it is beautifully crafted in 18kt gold and platinum. It dates from the years around 1900. The reverse of the stickpin (pictured below) illustrates the skill and care with which it was created. The French gold mark for 18kt (an eagle's head) and an indistinct maker's mark yet to be identified are stamped on the upper pin stem. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
