Fiery Red Spinel in an 18kt Gold Ring

18kt gold ring with a red spinel and two diamonds.

Arrest Me Red!

Arrest-Me-Red is a good way to describe the vibrant color of this Burmese Spinel.

The fiery red spinel is set in an 18kt gold ring with French double prongs.  The shoulders of the ring are gently scalloped to create a flowing,  undulating surface that sweeps upward to meet the spinel.  The oval spinel weighs  1.39 carats and is accented by two small,  hidden diamonds.

The French double prongs are gracefully tapered to complement the gentle upsweep of the band and the concave shoulders.  Note the milgraining along the edges of the ring and mounting  -  this simple bead-like pattern adds a rich elegance to the design.

Spinel,  a precious gemstone,  is found in a rainbow of beautiful colors  -  reds,  pinks,  lavenders,  blues and many other shades.  Spinels with a rich red color are often mistaken for fine rubies.  Most famously,  the Black Prince Ruby in the Crown Jewels of England was for many years believed to be a ruby.  In fact,  it is a fiery red spinel!

In this side view,  you can see the "hidden treasures" we added to this design.  Beneath the red spinel is a small round brilliant-cut diamond set between the upper and lower galleries of the mounting.  The white brilliance of the diamond is the perfect complement to the fiery red of the spinel and rich warmth of the 18kt yellow gold.  A matching diamond is also set on the other side of the ring.

To accent the diamonds,  we placed small circlets of platinum beneath the shoulders of the ring.  These circlets of platinum continue like secret passageways through to the other side.  It is the little details,  the small accents and hidden treasures,  that make a beautiful jewel truly unique.

Creating a delicate appearing jewel that is also sturdily constructed is the true test of a jeweler's artistry and skill.  In this view of the underside,  you can see how carefully this ring was crafted.  Note the sturdy setting that cradles the spinel,  the smooth finish of the inner surfaces, and the crisp even edges.  The underside of a fine ring should be as beautiful as the top.

Also note the thickness of the ring's band and the sturdiness of the mounting that holds the gemstones.   This assures that the spinel and diamonds are securely protected and that the ring will wear beautifully for many years.

No fine jewel is complete without the registered hallmark of the maker and precious metal marks indicating the purity of the gold.  In this close up you can see the maker's mark for Bijoux Extraordinaire ("BEL") your assurance of quality in design and materials,  and the precious metal mark ("18K") for the 18 karat gold.
